Which is the best mobile platform

What do you like best?
A) Apple iPhone
B) Google Android
C) RIM Blackberry
D) Palm

If I forgot anyone else it was deliberate (sorry Microsoft, Qualcomm, etc.)

Picking a platform from a consumer standpoint is pretty easy as the penalty for making a mistake is only about $250 (early contract termination fees).
When picking a platform for corporate mobile development not so easy. The trend in the last 2-3 years of consumers gadgets/devices becoming enterprise norms (thank you millenials) keeps becoming real.
I will call this term "consuprise enabled" - meaning that device/platform is ready for consumers and enterprises to use. The Blackberry has been there for some time, while the iPhone is still trying to get there. (In some companies is almost there.)
Companies have been forced to adopt new mobile platforms based on the power and popularity of these devices and the added value of their own applications.
Soon, if Google does it right, the Android could become an consuprise enabled platform as well. I just don't see Palm ever getting there. The battles will be fought mainly by Apple and Google this year. Unless RIM wakes up soon they will soon start losing market share and relevancy.

What do you think?

My Phone - my next computer?

As I wondered what to write for my first contribution to the HITEC blog, I looked at my trusted iPhone and said to myself - let it be about mobility. So here it goes..

In the last 3-5 years smartphones have become as powerful as notebooks/laptops circa 2005. Soon they are becoming an actual competitor to a notebook / netbook for corporate professionals. I thought I was alone in this space, but more and more I find that other professionals that I talk to think of their smartphone as the other computer.

A wise IT man said once: "The beauty about standards is there are some many.." - now I don't truly know it was what an IT person that said that, but it had to be, specially in the US where there are standards for everything.

So I am interested in understanding whether this is a real trend from other executives specially latino executives. As strange as it may sound, I have not used or carried a laptop in the last 15 months. I made the conscious choice to test and see whether I can function without one and the test sort of worked out. It definitely proved that between my Blackberry and iPhone I can do almost everything I used to with my laptop - from documents, to spreadsheets, to paying bills, surfing the web and yes my dear colleagues - even short Powerpoint presentations.

When I go to 80% of my meetings I hardly ever carry pen and paper anymore either - whatever I need I can do with my phones (take notes, check my schedule, etc..) - I am trying to find the most optimal way of projecting presentations from my iPhone...once I do that then I am set.

I'd love to hear what others have to say on this topic..i could be alone - who knows?
